Your Guide to Recovery After EVO ICL Surgery
June 13, 2023
The EVO ICL (implantable collamer lens) is an artificial lens that is placed in front of the natural lens in your eye for permanent vision correction. If you are planning to have eye surgery, you might be wondering what the recovery entails. It’s helpful to know the dos and don’ts after surgery so that you have a smooth recovery and achieve great results.
What is EVO ICL Surgery?
EVO ICL surgery corrects moderate to severe refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The surgical procedure is performed under local anesthesia using sedative eye drops. Once your eyes are numb, the ICL will be inserted into the eye. Luckily, recovery is relatively short. Your vision will be blurry for about 1-2 days after surgery, but after this time you can return to work and do most normal activities.
What Should You Not Do After EVO ICL Surgery?
Driving, and the use of heavy machinery, must be avoided until your vision clears. Alcohol should also be avoided for the first 1-2 days since it can increase bleeding and slow the healing process. For about one week, do not swim or use a hot tub since water can get into your healing eye. Similarly, be careful not to get water in your eyes when showering. Heavy lifting, straining, and strenuous exercises can be resumed in about 1-2 weeks after you are cleared by your doctor.
What Should You Do After EVO ICL Surgery?
Although the initial recovery period is short, your eyes won’t be completely healed for a couple of months, so you must give your body time to rest. Along with rest, your body needs the resources to heal so make sure to eat a healthy diet and stay hydrated. Include lots of leafy greens, vegetables, lean meats like chicken and fish, and whole grains.
Make sure to follow all your doctor’s post-op instructions and attend your post-operative appointments as scheduled. If you have any questions or concerns during your recovery, please do not hesitate to contact our team at Anh Nguyen Ophthalmology.
