EVO ICL in Fairfax, VA

At only 20 minutes away, all the residents of Fairfax can take advantage of the skills and expertise we offer at Anh Nguyen Ophthalmology. Whether you want to address nearsightedness with an EVO ICL, learn more about LASIK, or you’re struggling with an eye condition, Dr. Nguyen and our whole team are here to ensure you have the best vision possible.

What is an EVO ICL?

An EVO ICL, which stands for an Evolution Implantable Collamer Lens, is a type of implantable artificial lens that is placed behind your iris and in front of the eye’s natural lens. It provides long-term correction of a number of refractive errors, including astigmatism, nearsightedness, and farsightedness. It’s virtually invisible on the eye, and the procedure doesn’t take much more than 15 minutes per eye. It’s safe, highly effective, and can completely change how you see the world.

Laser Eye Surgery in Fairfax, VA

On top of EVO ICLs, we also offer a number of different forms of laser eye surgery to correct refractive errors and destroy cataracts, including the following:

LASIK

LASIK surgery, also known as Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is likely the type of laser eye surgery you’ve heard the most about. It can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism without much downtime. It works by reshaping the cornea and can improve your vision to 20/25 or better.

PRK

Not a candidate for LASIK surgery? No problem! PRK, or photorefractive keratectomy, is a great alternative to LASIK and was actually the method used to correct refractive errors before LASIK was discovered. It requires a longer recovery time because the whole top layer of the cornea is being removed, but it will still provide you with similar results.

Laser Cataract Surgery

Struggling with cataracts? They can be an issue for many people, but with the help of laser cataract surgery, we can completely eliminate the cataract and give you crystal-clear vision. A laser is used to soften and break up the cataract. After that, an implantable lens can be placed to further improve your vision. Surgery typically takes about 30 minutes.

Other Eye Conditions We Treat in Fairfax, VA

Whether with surgery, medication, or another form of treatment,  we treat a wide variety of eye conditions at Anh Nguyen Ophthalmology, including the following:

Retina Problems

There are many conditions and diseases that affect the retina, and some are more common than others. A few of the most common retina conditions we treat at Anh Nguyen Ophthalmology include:

To address these conditions, we offer several different treatments, including:

  • Laser surgery: Laser surgery is often used to fix retinal tears to close and seal the tissue.
  • Freezing treatment (cryopexy): Cryopexy is also used to repair retinal tears. By freezing part of the retina, a scar can form to keep the retina in place.
  • Scleral buckle: This treatment is used for retinal detachments. A scleral buckle is used to keep the retina in its normal position.
  • Vitrectomy: During a vitrectomy, we will remove parts of the vitreous humor from the middle of your eye to ensure no fluid or blood is blocking your vision.

Cornea Problems

The retina is not alone in experiencing certain problems. The cornea is susceptible to issues as well, including:

  • Injury: While the cornea typically heals injuries on its own, if it’s a more extensive injury, treatment may be necessary to ensure it heals properly.
  • Keratitis: Keratitis is the inflammation of the cornea and is often caused by an injury, but it can occur due to bacteria, fungi, parasites, or viruses.
  • Dry eye syndrome: Dry eye syndrome is quite common and can cause the eye to feel dry, itchy, and even painful at times. It’s typically caused by a malfunction in tear production.
  • Keratoconus: Keratoconus causes the cornea to become more cone-shaped and bulge forward, causing blurry vision.
  • Fuch’s Dystrophy: This condition causes the endothelial cells in the cornea to die off and leads to excess fluid building up, causing swelling. If left untreated, it can lead to blindness.
  • Pterygium: Pterygium is a type of growth on the surface of the cornea and is often due to excess exposure to UV rays.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition that occurs when the drainage system in the eye becomes blocked, and fluid cannot leave the eye quickly enough. This causes the intraocular pressure to increase to extremely high levels. From there, the eye can be pushed back on the optic nerve, and if the nerve becomes damaged, it can lead to permanent vision loss. Luckily, with our expertise at Anh Nguyen Ophthalmology, we can address the issue before it becomes a severe problem.

Ptosis

Are you struggling with drooping upper eyelids and aren’t sure why? It could be ptosis. This occurs when the levator muscle becomes weak and stretched out, making the upper eyelid droop. With ptosis surgery, we can correct the problem and ensure your vision is no longer obstructed. The procedure takes between 45-90 minutes, depending on if both eyelids need to be treated.
