EVO ICL in Arlington, VA

If you live in Arlington and are struggling with your vision or eye health, we are only a short 15-minute drive away. Whether you finally want to ditch your glasses or are struggling with new eye concerns as you get older, schedule a consultation with us at Anh Nguyen Opthalmology today!

What is EVO ICL?

EVO ICL, an Implantable Collamer Lens, is a type of removable implant made of thin collagen that corrects common vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism without the need to remove any corneal tissue. With ICL implants, you have less of a need for glasses or contacts.

Good candidates for the EVO ICL are those with high prescriptions (from -3 to -20 diopters) and those with severe dry eye, high astigmatism, or thin corneas. It can also be a good alternative for those who can’t receive LASIK surgery.

To insert the lens, a small incision is made in the cornea, and the lens is inserted through that incision. The procedure takes about 20 minutes. Find out more about the innovative procedure by scheduling a consultation at Anh Nguyen Opthalmology today!

Laser Eye Surgery Services in Arlington, VA

LASIK

LASIK surgery, which stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is the most popular form of laser vision correction in the US. It works to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Because all of these eye issues are caused by a misshapen cornea, LASIK surgery works to change the shape of the cornea. The procedure has an incredibly good track record, with those receiving the surgery achieving 20/25 vision or better.

PRK

PRK, or photorefractive keratectomy, is a type of refractive surgery that corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It was the original surgery to correct vision before LASIK was discovered and is still highly effective. Because it requires the top layer of the cornea to be removed, the recovery time is much longer, but it can be a good alternative for those who cannot have LASIK surgery. We will help you determine if it’s right for you when you come in for your initial consultation.

Laser Cataract Surgery

For those struggling with cataracts, laser cataract surgery is a great option. Laser cataract surgery at Anh Nguyen Opthalmology begins with a full 3D mapping of your eyes, allowing your ophthalmologist to create the right treatment plan for you and your cataracts. Next, our LenSx Laser system creates a series of tiny incisions in the cornea. This allows the laser to gently soften and break up cataracts into very tiny pieces. Then, an appropriate replacement lens (IOL) can be placed if necessary.

Eye Conditions in Arlington, VA

Cornea Problems

The cornea is susceptible to many different diseases and conditions. Some of the most common include the following:

  • Injury: The cornea is capable of healing minor scratches and injuries on its own. Deeper injuries can cause scarring, resulting in hazy vision, and may need surgery or other treatments.
  • Keratitis: Keratitis is the inflammation of the cornea. This condition can be noninfectious and is most often caused by minor injury.
  • Dry eye syndrome: Dry eye syndrome is extremely common and can cause the cornea to feel dry and itchy. This is generally due to a malfunction in tear production and can often be addressed with artificial tears.
  • Keratoconus: Keratoconus causes the cornea to become more cone-shaped and can lead to extremely blurry vision.
  • Fuch’s Dystrophy: This condition progresses slowly over time and causes the endothelial cells to die off, leading fluids to build up and the eye to swell.  When left untreated, it can cause blindness.
  • Pterygium: Pterygium is a type of growth on the surface of the cornea. This is usually due to excessive UV exposure. While they are harmless, they can cause vision problems and irritation.

Retina Problems

There are, unfortunately, quite a few different conditions that can affect the retina as well. Some are more common than others. Some of the retinal diseases we treat at Anh Nguyen Ophthalmology include:

The treatments we offer to help treat these retinal conditions include the following:

  • Laser surgery: Laser surgery can be performed to fix retinal tears.
  • Freezing treatment (cryopexy): Cryopexy also works well to address retina tears. By freezing part of the retina, scar tissue forms around the tear, keeping the retina in place.
  • Scleral buckle: This is a common treatment for retinal detachments. The scleral buckle does exactly what it says it does. It “buckles” the retina into place
  • Vitrectomy: When blood or fluid leaks from the vitreous humor, a vitrectomy is done. During the procedure, the vitreous humor is removed from the middle of the eye to stop any leakage from obscuring your vision.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease that can cause permanent damage to the optic nerve when left untreated. It occurs when the drainage system in the eye becomes blocked, and fluid builds up, causing the intraocular pressure to increase to dangerous levels and the eye to press on the optic nerve.

The most common form is open-angle glaucoma and typically doesn’t show any symptoms at all until vision loss occurs. Angle-closure glaucoma is less common but is a very serious condition that can lead to eye pain, nausea, and headaches.  No matter what type of glaucoma you have, our team at Anh Nguyen Ophthalmology can help you find the right treatment for you. Some treatment options include laser surgery, trabeculectomy, and medication.

Ptosis

We can also address ptosis at Anh Nguyen Ophthalmology. Ptosis is a condition where the levator muscle stretches and weakens over time, resulting in drooping upper eyelids. Luckily, with the help of ptosis surgery, we can stitch the levator muscle and ensure the eyelid is no longer obstructing your vision.
