I have been a practicing retina specialist for well over 20 years and have been in the northern Virginia area since 2003. I prefer to work alongside or within general ophthalmic practices as I believe we are able to offer better comprehensive care to our patients. It is also more practical to offer various specialties under the same “roof.” By working here with Dr. Nguyen, a fellowship trained cornea specialist, cataract and LASIK surgeon, we are able to provide a wide range of care, including retina care.
As a retina specialist, I take care of patients with diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusions and complications from cataract surgery. I normally perform retina surgery at Woodburn Surgical Center, the outpatient facility of INOVA Fairfax Hospital. Retina surgery usually involves “vitrectomy” to repair retinal detachments, remove epiretinal membranes, close macular holes or to remove bothersome floaters.

The staff is friendly, experienced and very knowledgeable. Several languages are spoken here, an important attribute in the Washington, D.C. area these days. I am native to the Washington, D.C. area. I grew up and still live in Bethesda, Maryland. Amy and I have a blended family including 5 children. Several of our children have had successful youth ice hockey careers and most of our time is spent at the rink; usually managing one of various teams. I love competitive tennis, do not play golf (but love to watch it on TV), love Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and Labrador retrievers.
I look forward to meeting you.
